Conference Funding Sources
You’ve found the conference of your dreams, but aren’t sure how you’re going to pay for the trip? Try some of these resources.
- Graduate Student Professional Development Awards
- Professional Development Awards provide support for students to attend major professional meetings at which they present an original paper based on their research. The Graduate School allocates travel funds to each department or program. The graduate adviser and graduate coordinator can nominate students for these awards which are approved and administered by the Graduate School. from UT Graduate School Website

- SASI Conference Scholarships
- SASI budgets money for students to pay conference registrations. Awards are very competitive and are limited to $100 per person per conference. In special cases (with approval from the Dean) students may receive up to $150 for conference registration. This money comes from student fees and due to liability, may NOT be used for travel.
- American Library Association – Student to Staff
- Student to Staff is an annual award that provides registration, housing, and a per diem for food to one student from each library program. In exchange, the student works 4 hours per day at the conference. It’s a great opportunity for networking. Every school has its own selection process. Our ALA liasion (Dr. Immroth) emails the Insider and asks for proposals from students. The student selected for Student to Staff is expected to Co-Direct the UT ALA/TLA Chapter the following year.
