Author Guidelines
Libraries & the Cultural Record is a journal of history. We invite submission of research articles that explore the history of the related domains, individually and in concert, of libraries and librarianship, archival and records enterprise, preservation and conservation in the information environment, museums, and information science ― the antecedents of the emerging field of information.
See suggested topics under Topics of Interest.
Articles
We seek articles highlighting the drama of those who created, organized, preserved or facilitated access to the cultural record — recorded knowledge of human discovery, creativity, and achievement. We especially welcome articles that highlight the interplay of historical forces, issues, people, and ideas.
Please see the journal’s current and recent issues for the types of articles accepted for publication. Authors may wish to submit a proposal for an article prior to submitting a completed manuscript or contact the editor to discuss whether a topic would be appropriate for Libraries & the Cultural Record. Certain broad topics are of particular interest to the journal.
Articles should be approximately 6,000 to 10,000 words in length. See Submission Requirements for information on manuscript requirements and the submission process. All articles are subject to peer review.
Essays and Notes
We also welcome submissions of noteworthy essays on topics of interest to historians and other professionals in the Information Domain, as well as notes relating to professional activities and issues. Essays and notes are subject to review by the editor. See Submission Requirements for manuscript format.
